Our story
Our move to Dubai was set: a new country, a new home, a new school for our two children. And before we had even arrived in Dubai, a message came: the children would be sitting the CAT4.
They had to take the test at their school back home in Germany, supervised by a teacher. The teachers received a link to log in, and our children answered the questions on a computer.
The test day
Our children were very nervous. They sat in front of the computer with questions they had never seen before – and we couldn’t even tell them beforehand what to expect.
We had no idea what to make of it. What does the test measure? Should they study for it? What happens if the result isn’t good? We searched online and mostly found forums, conflicting advice and expensive tutoring. What we didn’t find was a calm, clear explanation.
When the report arrived, it didn’t get easier: bars, a yellow band, abbreviations like SAS, NPR and stanine, and grade estimates for exams we had never heard of. We had more questions than answers – and our children could feel our uncertainty.
What we wished we’d had
Someone to explain calmly what the CAT4 is – and what it isn’t. A way for our children to see the question types once beforehand – not to drill, just to know what to expect. And a translation of the report into plain words.
That is what MindScout has become:
- Understand: we explain the CAT4, the scores and the report the way we wished someone had explained them to us – what the CAT4 is, how to read the report and what the terms mean.
- Get familiar: children meet every question type in short, calm sessions. Atlas, our AI tutor, explains every answer.
- Follow along: parents see where their child stands in the dashboard – without pressure and without promises about scores.
